Is your portfolio falling short of expectations?
Many investments take their time to realise even modest expectations. Post acquisition, consultants come and deliver fabulous slide decks, all graphs point upwards and growth leading to a rapid exit seems guaranteed. But despite due diligence, unexpected skeletons emerge and the existing team seems suddenly populated by personnel who aren't able to adapt to new ways of working, holding back progress and failinmg to embrace the Value Creation Plan.
Most businesses have fragmented GTM teams, Product isn't connected with Marketing, Marketing are at war with Sales because leads aren't handled well, campaigns, collateral and brand guidelines are ignored and Sales feel they are better off 'doing it themselves' as MQL's are discounted and account planning becomes account history. Forecasts may be appear to be on track, but who is looking at the reality, the previous quarters where forecast was 'just missed', the large clients that didn't grow as expected or even went elsewhere. Suddenly faith in the investment can waver, monthly board updates become challenging and confidence in the forward forecast and overall performance erodes.
Is anyone owning the plan? Who is accounable for driving the leading indicators of success and putting in frameworks and repeatable systems to operationalise growth?
